ACL injury

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the ligaments that help stabilize the knee. The ACL connects the thigh and the shin. The ACL makes sure that when turning, the two muscles don’t get separated. The ACL is not a bone, but it is a band of tissues, which means that it is very flexible, but there is a danger of rupturing the band of tissues. Making a turning movement is the most common cause of rupturing the ACL.  Most people who rupture their ACL hears a popping sound.
Bones can regrow; however, once the ACL is torn, it doesn’t grow back naturally. That is why a lot of people who rupture their ACL are going for surgery. There are four types of ACL reconstruction techniques, but they all have one thing in common: a 12 months rehabilitation process.

J. van Tol

Head Physiotherapist

Jordy is a physiotherapist for B&B healthcare, and his speciality is knees and ankles. Jordy has work experience for the youth of Excelsior Rotterdam, the youth of ADO and was one of the head physiotherapists for the Beach Volleyball world cup.
Jordy is the best physiotherapist I could wish for. His knowledge about the ACL injury is very broad, and the fact that he ruptured his ACL himself enables him to relate with his ACL patients.
I met him the first week of February 2020, and I saw Jordy twice a week for at least 17 months. However, I plan to train with him once every month to make sure he will not miss me too much.

M. van Haagen

Orthopedic surgeon

M. van Haagen was the surgeon who blessed me with a new ACL. Mister van Haagen Speciality is everything related to movement.
I had four appointments with M. van Haagen. The first was an introduction to check my knee to see if there was something wrong with my ACL. The second time was after the result of the MRI scan to tell me the bad news that I officially had ruptured my ACL and tore my meniscus. The third time was when he operated on me and the last time was a check-up after ten months of rehabilitation.  Surprisingly the last appointment was the best one.

M. Sloos

Physiotherapist

Marciano was the second physiotherapist I went to for a long time. After I started with my thesis, I needed to change timeslots, and luckily I could spend my Tuesday mornings with Marciano.
Marciano is also a physiotherapist for B&B healthcare. He was the physiotherapist for the youth of ADO but now he works for me, SVV Scheveningen and the ADO women youth team. His speciality is also everything related to movement. He was a year younger than me, which means that we could talk about many things and have a lot of fun.
